SALIDA Area Rides You Should Not Miss!
1) Monarch Crest Trail to Silver Creek
Epic and famous – the Monarch Crest Trail follows the Colorado Trail/Continental Divide Trail above treeline for one of the biggest views in Colorado. The singletrack is high-altitude perfection.
2) Colorado Trail – Mount Princeton North
Perfect mountain singletrack, this section of the Colorado Trail bobs and weaves like Ali through pine forests and through dips and creeks. It rocks.
3) Rainbow Trail – Bear Creek to Methodist Mountain
Rolling historical trail close to Salida and you can mach sections of this trail. So fun!
4) Little Rainbow Trail (KID FRIENDLY!)
Perfect for beginning mountain bikers and kids – this wide, rolling trail runs along Methodist Mountain immediately south of Salida. It’s the perfect trail for anyone wanting to enter the wild world of mountain biking.
5) Silver Creek Loop
Park on the shoulder of Poncha Pass, ride a few miles uphill along Silver Creek then jump on the Rainbow Trail and zippity doo da singletrack all the way back to your car. 20 miles. It’s nice.
6) S-Mountain Trails (YEAR-ROUND RIDING!)
Accessed from downtown Salida, these lower-elevation trails provide four seasons of riding! Built as a stacked loop system, these trails range from beginner to advanced.
7) Alpine Tunnel to Continental Divide Trail
A local favorite, this ride starts and ends in the historic town of St. Elmo. Climb a railroad grade to the now defunct Alpine Train Tunnel. Cross the Continental Divide to visit the old round table and historic buildings. Hook up with the CDT for some mind-blowing high-alpine single-track and descend to St.Elmo on an old logging road.
